Some Thoughts on Trans Exclusion from Girl Guides & The Women’s Institute
As you might have heard, Girl Guides in the UK - as a result of the Supreme Court ruling has decided to exclude trans girls from being members. One of many organisations who are (wilfully or not) turning their backs on, not just trans people - but vulnerable CHILDREN.
Is the implication here that trans children, simply as a result of their chromosomes, are rapists?
It seems to me that that is the only possible conclusion to draw from such a ridiculous, sweeping & cowardly decision. There is a lot of talk about ‘regret’ for the situation, however - don’t these organisations have a responsibility at a certain point to actually stand up for the ideals they supposedly believe in? Were equal rights ever achieved successfully through any other means?
A ‘new task-force’ just doesn’t cut it, to be honest. The damage is already done - and despite organisations like Scouts being mixed for over 20 years, all Girl Guides has achieved here is to assure its trans members that they are not truly cared about at all.
And now, the implication is clear and irreversible. As usual, a ‘well intentioned’ organisation has allowed itself to be damaged by the demands of a small pressure group with nefarious intentions.
And that’s not all, because also this week…
‘No choice’ is an interesting way of saying no backbone. Honestly, are we supposed to just accept that as an excuse? Either trans people are worth fighting for, or they aren’t.
But it does change, because trans progress can’t be made by theory alone. It takes people who are willing to fight against dates and restrictive definitions and allow trans people to socially exist as the gender you ‘believe’ we are. This is cowardice, plain and simple.
Why not just call it the ‘Separate but Equal Institute’ while we’re at it? Honestly, the very idea that this would be an acceptable solution is insulting.
As for this, it’s nice that some MPs think it’s gone ‘far beyond’ but the problem is the language here. If you say “women and trans people” you’re linguistically signalling that trans women sit outside of the category of ‘women’. This is what has allowed us to get to this point. And seeing as Labour has been instrumental in stripping away trans protections, you’ll excuse me for not trusting anyone who still feels comfortable in that party.
Again, taken down by small, ‘gender critical’ pressure groups, who claim to speak for a majority of women, yet would quite happily see feminism itself be outlawed.
It is one of betrayal, because you’re too frightened to put your money where your mouth is and actually fight for us. What was the slogan again? Oh yeah - deeds not words. Oh well, that’s probably not important, right? Who even said that, anyway? Who cares?

This makes me sad/angry - so basically I think that both organisations are scared that if they don't kowtow, they'll get sued - which they probably will. And like with the Hampstead Women's Pond, it won't we by genuine members/users, but gender criticals who will join in order to start legal action - with deep pockets lined by JKR etc for expensive barristers
This is a great pity. It would have been amazing if the WI had just responded to the legal threats by saying OK, do your worst, because how stupid and mean spirited would anybody have looked taking the WI to court over this!
